Pic3D Sheet turns 2D Screen into Glasses free 3D Display

Japanese company Global Wave coined the new special film, which transforms any 2D LCD screen into a glasses free 3D display. This new invention is named as Pic3D sheet and is the first of its kind.

Global Wave announced the device at Virtual Reality Exhibition in Tokyo. Pic3D sheet is designed based on the lenticular lens systems (A series of cylindrical lenses molded in a plastic substrate) instead of parallax barrier. This comes in common sizes for LCD panels at 12.1 inch (1,280×800 resolution), 15.6 inch (1,366×768), 21.5 inch (1,920×1,080), and 23 inch (1,920×1,080) resolutions. The company is planning to launch the sheets for iPhone, iPad and others in the near future.

The company spokesperson explains as, “Basically it will work with video files which are in the side by side format, and if you input URLs for side by side formatted content on sites such as YouTube, it will work with them too. Right now we plan to begin sales in early August, and at first we plan to sell it through our own direct sales website.”

 

By using the lenticular lens system, the screen able to achieve 90 percent of light transmission, and has a 120-degree of field view. Pic3D works on side-by-side 3D video format only. Global Wave is planning to price the sheets starting from $25 for the iPhone model to $186 for the 23-inch film.
