It does not need to be said twice that at the moment, China is the largest handset market in the world and its domestic brands are coming to the forefront for a while now. Xiaomi is popularly referred as the Apple of China, owing to its dominance and similar user interface offered in handsets. The handset maker has continued to be the top player in Chinese handset market in the month of April, according to a recent report by Sino - a well-known research firm. An infographic of the report was shared by the company's CEO on a Chinese social networking site, weibo. Now, with this information, the handset maker has managed to create a history. It is for the first time ever in the history that a domestic brand has managed to grab a massive 26% share of the Chinese handset market. Having the largest chunk of the biggest smartphone market in the world speaks volume about the brand's popularity.
After Xiaomi, it is the sub brand of Huawei, Honor that rules the market with 15.7% share while the parent brand itself enjoys an 8% share. LeTV (LeEco), which recently made its debut in the Indian handset market, enjoys a market share of 10.5%. What comes as surprise is that while China is one of the largest consumers of Apple products, the Cupertino-based enjoys only 8.2% share in China. However, the bigger surprise lies in the fact that the largest handset maker around the world, Samsung, is the least popular brand in China with just 3.2 % share. Xiaomi sure seem to have stolen the thunder from big players and on its way to global dominance.
