February 1 is right around the corner, and so are TRAI's new rules that mandate "freedom of choice" and "direct control" for all DTH and cable TV customers in India.
But if you are still confused on how to go about making these amends, here is a simple explainer for you that will help you sort things out before the new rules kick in.
To choose your unique DTH plan with Videocon D2H, simply fire up the operator's website and click on "Create your own pack" button on the home page. Now, login to your account and choose the mandatory base pack along with any other individual channels or custom channel packs that you would wish to subscribe to. Click on "Confirm" and you are done.
There are two ways for Airtel Digital TV subscribers to choose the new channel plans. You can either head on to Airtel's website or open the My Airtel app. On both, users have to login with their registered mobile number, using the OTP or password. Scroll to your account and choose from A-la-carte packs, Broadcaster, and Recommended options. Once you do that, Airtel will show you the monthly amount that you need to pay. If you agree, click "Confirm" and you are done.
Even with Tata Sky, users can choose channels and channel packs from the website or mobile app (available on Android and iOS). Log in to your account using your registered mobile number or your subscriber ID. Once in, click on the home page banner that takes you to the channel selection page. Here, you will be asked to enter in an OTP sent to your number.
After you get in, options to choose a-la-carte channels, packs, and bouquets will be available, and you can decide what to pick based on the pricing. Click "Confirm" and you are good to go.
And, finally, DishTV users can also choose the new plans in a few simple steps. You can choose between the website and mobile app to make the changes. Log in with your registered mobile number, enter the OTP, and choose between three categories - Dish Combo, Channels, and Bouquets.
Network Capacity Fee (NCF) for the first 100 channels is Rs. 130 (plus GST). For every additional slab of 25 channels, Rs. 20 will be charged if number of channels is 15 or more. And, Re. 1 per channel will be charged if the number of channels is less than 15.
One HD channel shall be treated equal to two SD channels for the purpose of calculating number of channels within the distribution network capacity subscribed. Standard lock-in period is 30 days, but might vary depending on the kind of channel.
