Elon Musk wants people and governments to be afraid of AI

He thinks that AI is the biggest risk we face as a civilisation

Elon Musk is probably the biggest proponent of artificial intelligence. For proof, his Tesla cars use an elaborate AI for self driving. Well, he even wants to send people to mars. There is no denying that, in today's age, Musk is probably the biggest proponent of science and the advancements made in science. That is why, when Musk himself thinks that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the "biggest risk we face as a civilisation" it makes us sit up and take notice.

While this is not the first time that Musk has asked us to be wary of the power of AI, this is actually the first time he has gone ahead and asked the government to be proactive about it. He has asked the government of the USA to create a regulation in place for usage of AI. He thinks that unless this is done, things can get out of hand.

“Until people see robots going down the street killing people, they don’t know how to react because it seems so ethereal,” he said while addressing the National Governors Association Summer Meeting in Rhode Island, USA. “AI is a rare case where I think we need to be proactive in regulation instead of reactive. Because I think by the time we are reactive in AI regulation, it’s too late.”

In fact, a while ago Musk had even said that his plan to colonise Mars is a backup for if AI takes over the earth and humans can't do much about it. At the talk, Musk cited the fact that humans were beaten by AI at the game of Go and said, “The first order of business would be to try to learn as much as possible, to understand the nature of the issues.”

Now, that Elon Musk has said it what do you guys think? Will AI actually take over the humans?
