Artificial Intelligence is a technology trend that has sprung up in mainstream discourse in the past couple of years.
Almost every consumer technology brand out there is attempting to employ Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their products to make them all the more appealing to customers. So, it was but obvious, that these companies are looking for specific AI skills in their prospective employees.
To fill this demand-supply gap, IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Hyderabad has announced that it would be introducing a B. Tech programme in Artificial Intelligence from the next academic year, 2019-2020.
This announcement makes IIT Hyderabad the first recognised Indian institute to offer a graduate course in this specialisation, and also the third one in the world - after MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Carnegie Mellon University.
As per official information from the University, the course will have an intake of 20 students in the first batch, all of whom can apply using the standard JEE Advanced examination, previously used to enter into other graduate programmes of IITs in India.
As for the programme itself, the Department of Artificial Intelligence, IIT Hyderabad, says that the new course will provide prospective students with a sound understanding of the fundamentals of theory and practice in fields of Artificial Intelligence as well as Machine Learning.
To recall, IIT Hyderabad had become the first Indian institute to introduce AI as a minor optional course in the second year for students willing to go for it.
