It seems that Instagram's Snapchat inspiration is not quite over yet. The social platform is bringing another element inspired by one of the Snapchat features called Snapcodes. The code in Instagram's latest alpha release suggests that the company is going to introduce something called 'nametags' which can be used to scan and follow people on the platform.
It seems from the code that the nametag can be a combination of selfie and stickers. That will allow users to create their unique personalised nametags. The new alpha build of Instagram even has icons for scanning nametags.
Instagram seems to really increase the discoverability factor which Snapchat lacks. The latter had introduced QR code like Snapcode in January last year to make it easier for users to add each other on Snapchat. However, Instagram's massive userbase and reach are working in its favour a lot. Last reported numbers suggested that Instagram stories had reached a massive user base of 300 million. While Snapchat has around 173 million active users.
Snapchat has been in a lot of soup lately as well. Recently, Rihanna slammed the platform for allowing the ad that shamed her. A lot of her fans deleted the app and it shares tanked too cause the company to lose $800 million. Earlier the company lost $1.3 billion because of a tweet from Kylie Jenner.
