Last year was all about the Samsung Galaxy Note7 debacle and the debate if Li-ion batteries were safe for our smartphones. And it seems that yet another case of the Lithium debate has come to light. A 21-year old Indian student from Kerala posted on Facebook that his Lenovo K6 Note smartphone exploded in his pocket.
According to the victim, the phone was in his pocket while he was at a bus stop. He noticed smoke flames and felt a burning sensation forcing him to throw the smartphone away. Despite that, he had first degree burns and was taken to the hospital. He claims that the K6 Note was purchased last December from a shop in Kerala.
Lenovo is currently investigating the incident as there is no confirmation on the cause; although the evidence points towards a faulty battery pack in the Lenovo smartphone.
Launched in September last year, the Lenovo K6 Note has sold fairly well and did not have any reported cases of explosion or catching fire before this incident. We are currently awaiting a response from Lenovo India and will update the story.
