Amidst dozens of futuristic gadgets showcased at CES 2019, this one from LG is what caught our eyeballs.
LG HomeBrew is a countertop beer bot that can give you freshly brewed beer within seconds. All you have to do is put in a capsule with your choice of beer style and press the Start button.
These proprietary capsules, created by LG, contain all ingredients right from yeast to malt and hop oil giving you your favourite drink in the comfort of your home. The beer styles LG is currently offering include American IPA, American Pale Ale, English Stout, Belgian Witbier, and Czech Pilsner.
CNET went hands-on with the beer bot at CES where they were shown a demo of the LG HomeBrew. All the ingredients are stored in small cups that go into the left side of the beer bot. There is an opening on the right to pour water in from, all of which is easily controllable using the digital panel on the front.
Despite the convenience, home brewing is a hack because malt extract is a supplement you need to use instead of the real deal. That said, the result is still expected to be a pretty good substitute given the device also adjusts the temperature and pressure of the batch to protect it from infections.
LG HomeBrew hasn't received a price tag yet, possibly because it is somewhat of a concept right now. It's not really an alternative to enjoying your favourite craft beer at the pub, but it's for those Fridays when you don't wish to socialise; instead want to sit back and watch Netflix at home.
