Google was earlier dependent on its hardware partners for the Nexus series of smartphones, but this changed after it launched the Pixel series. The first generation of the Pixel smartphones was launched last year and received appreciation for the powerful hardware it offered. Google recently launched the second generation Pixel series smartphones called the Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL. As evident, the Google Pixel 2 XL is a larger device among the two. The smartphone has everything which you can expect from a flagship smartphone. If you are planning to buy the Google Pixel 2 XL, here’s a brief overview of the device highlighting why or why not you should be buying it.
Excellent configuration: The best thing about the Pixel smartphones is the power they pack under the hood. The brain of the system in this phone consists of two Kryo 280 quad-core processors placed upon Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 MSM8998 chipset, having clock speeds of 2.45GHz and 1.9GHz. The processors along with a 4GB RAM can easily handle whatever task you throw at the phone. The graphical interface for gaming and other full HD content is handled by the Adreno 540 GPU.
Impressive display: The Google Pixel 2 XL flaunts a 6-inch P-OLED QHD+ display with a screen resolution of 2,880 x 1,440 pixels. Watching movies and videos on this phone is a treat for the eyes. The phablet comes with 18:9 aspect ratio and the display is protected by a 3D Corning Gorilla Glass v5.
Magnificent cameras: Having HDR mode, dual pixel, phase detection and laser autofocus features, a 12.2MP (f/2.0) rear camera comes with the Google Pixel 2 XL. Images are captured instantly with lifelike colours and the picture’s quality is among the bests you can get on a smartphone. The camera can shoot 4k resolution videos as well. An 8MP is present above the display that can click amazing selfies and make high-resolution video calls as well. The phone is equipped with a feature called Motion Photo, where the camera captures a three-second clip for each photo and stitch it after cutting the unwanted portions.
Water and dust proof body: The Google Pixel 2 XL comes with the IP67 certification, which makes the phone water and dust resistant. The device features an aluminum unibody with a hybrid coating. A responsive fingerprint sensor is present at the rear side for better security.
Google storage facility: The owners of the Pixel 2 XL can store the captured photos and videos on Google Photos in original quality to free up the inbuilt storage. Note that Google Photos is free for everyone, but for the other smartphone users, images are compressed at the time of uploading.
The absence of headphone jack: Following the steps of Apple, Google also decided not to include the 3.5 mm headphone jack. So, you can not use headphone while charging unless you have a Bluetooth headset.
The Google Pixel 2 XL is a high-end smartphone loaded with great features. The phablet comes with a strong configuration, amazing cameras, superb design and brilliant display. Though, the omission of the headphone jack is a cause of concern, but can be overlooked considering the features it offers on the other fronts.
