HTC's Desire range does not seem to be witnessing a slowdown in the number of smartphones being brought to it. The Desire 826 joins the extensive range of smartphones that have joined the Desire range in the past. It will give a fight to the high-end smartphones like the in-house rival Desire 820. However, it brings a new trick to the party which is called a front-facing Ultrapixel camera. Will the gimmick be able to give Desire 826 the lead over its rivals?
The HTC Desire 826 sports 77.5mmx158mmx7.99mm (lxbxh) and it weighs 183gm. As is expected from HTC, the build quality is impeccable and the materials used have a nice feel to them. Overall, the phone comes together quite well and shows it belongs to this range through and through.
The HTC Desire 826 sports a 5.5-inch screen that puts out display resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The pixels per inch ratings stands at 401 and it supports multi-touch. Other than that, it is a standard IPS LCD display.
The HTC Desire 826 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with Sense UI 7 skin (HTC's in-house development) on top of it. You get 16GB internal storage space and you can use a microSD card to expand it up to 128GB.
Performance and Battery Life
The HTC Desire 826 sports a 64-bit 1.7GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor and has been paired with 2GB RAM. Quite a powerful combination, it should be able to help you deal with daily tasks and take care of those power-hungry apps as well. Powering the hardware is a 2600mAh battery that has been rated to last for up to 18.6 hours of usage and 687 hours of standby time on a single full charge.
The HTC Desire 826 sports a 13-megapixel camera on the back and a 13 Megapixel one on the front. The rear camera has a BSI sensor with f/2.2 aperture and has an accompanying LED flash and auto-focus feature. The front camera also has a BSI sensor with f/2.0 aperture.
There is 3G and 4G network capabilities present on the smartphone along with Wifi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, DLNA, GPS with GLONASS, HTC Connect and dual front-facing BoomSound speakers with Dolby Audio. A microUSB port and dual SIM features seal the deal.
As far as specs are concerned, the HTC Desire 826 fails to impress. These are the kind of specs that a ZenFone 5 sports in the mid-range segment (give/take a couple) and still plays second fiddle to the first-generation Moto G. In light of such a happening, the Desire 826 does not have much of a case for itself. If you are interested in buying a phablet, then may be you should go for it. However for this much money, if you can find one, try to get a LG Google Nexus 5 and you will surely be celebrating for some time to come. If 4G is your focus, there is BlackBerry Z10 or Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G, for that matter, to your rescue. For the camera enthusiasts, the Sony Xperia C3 is a better option to go for.
