The Taiwanese handset maker, HTC has been banking on its Desire 826 series of smartphones to push the volumes in India. The Desire 826X was launched by the brand as a last ditch attempt to the sell the 826 lineup before it fizzles out. This handset comes with good specifications, however, for the price tag that it comes with it stands no chance in the Indian handset market. Personally we feel that this device is an unnecessary launch by the maker to bulk up the lineup, since it already has a number of devices at lower price with similar features.
The design of the handset is the typical Desire design with glossy plastic and two tone color scheme. It front camera is mounted in the center of the front panel much like the Desire Eye for better selfie capturing. The handset also features traditional front firing Boomsound speakers on the front panel for better audio output. The design of the handset is as elegant and minimalistic as it get and HTC could not have done better.
The display on the front of the Desire 826X measures a good 5.5-inch across the diagonal, which makes it ideal for any multimedia requirement. Moreover, the full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels further enhances the overall viewing experience on the handset. The display also comes protected by a shatter-proof and scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass layer.
Considering that the handset is placed in upper mid range of smartphones, it was imperative that it came with latest Android operating system. HTC did not disappoint us in this regard as the handset comes with Android Lollipop operating system, out of the box. Throw in the HTC Sense user interface in an already appealing mix of material design and performance enhancements of Lollipop update, you get a winner user interface.
Performance and Battery Life
The performance of the handset is expected to be power packed as it comes equipped with an impressive Octa-core processor clocked at 1.7 GHz. The 2 GB of RAM accompanying the processor further enhances the overall user experience and smoothness of the performance. However, the battery under the rear panel of the handset is a let down as it comes with a mere strength of 2600 mAh.
The highlight of the device when it comes to imaging is the 8 MP camera located in the top center part of the front panel. This snapper is more than sufficient for taking DSLR like selfies and making clear video calls. On its rear panel, the handset comes with a standard 13 MP camera with enhancement features incorporated in the Sense UI.
The handset is bound to face tough competition in this price segment from the likes of Samsung Galaxy S5, upcoming OnePlus Two, Galaxy A8 and Huawei Honor 6 Plus. All of these devices come with several impressive features and are much better handsets than the Desire 826 X.
Our final verdict for the Desire 826 X is that the handset manufacturer could have done without this particular launch as it offers nothing new that is not available in the market as of now. Users can definitely give it a miss since Desire 820 or Desire 820 S offer similar performance and specifications in a much lower price. This handset has been launched by the brand purely as an additional option in an existing lineup.
