OnePlus has always been that one brand, the new kid on the block, which has managed to create a furor with its smartphone launch in the country. At first it did so with OnePlus One, which quickly earned the nomenclature of flagship killer and now comes the OnePlus Two. With the latest handset, the brand has changed a few things around and inserted better, new-age technology in a better chassis. Here is a look at what all the latest handset from the brand has to offer.
By now, we all have had a good look at all leak renders of the device that surfaced online and the design matches accurately. While the last handset from the brand came with an all plastic build, OnePlus Two boasts of metal chassis with metallic buttons. One of the major addition to the design is the physical home button on the front panel, which is there to accommodate a fingerprint sensor. OnePlus claims that this fingerprint sensor is much more accurate and secure than the one found on Apple iPhone and other devices with fingerprint sensors. What caught our attention was a tiny button on the left edge of the handset that controls three way mute function for the handset.
OnePlus has retained the 5.5-inch display from the OnePlus One in the OnePlus Two as well. The display also offers the same 1080 x 1920 pixels viz. Full HD resolution as its predecessor. While you will be quick to presume that there is no change in the display, OnePlus claims that one of the major change is in the display itself. The display now claims to achieve brightness up to 600 nits, which is higher than that of even Apple iPhone 6 Plus. More importantly, the dreaded yellow tint that plagued OnePlus One has also been done away with. The new handset also comes with the durable Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protective layer.
After its fallout with Cyanogenmod Inc., OnePlus took to developing its own in-house Android-based operating system and the result was the Oxygen OS. Last seen on OnePlus One, the operating system was still in beta stage and did not offer much features to begin with. However, the new OnePlus Two comes with an Oxygen OS that has been developed and polished to offer much better features as compared to the early release of the operating system.
Performance and Battery Life
OnePlus devices are known to be flagship killers for one and one reason only, which is their stellar performance. OnePlus two also offers class leading performance to its users as it comes equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. The processor has been clocked at 1.8 GHz for that ultra fast and smooth functioning of the handset. However, the best is yet to come since this handset boasts of a massive 4 GB RAM. The battery life of the handset is also quite commendable since there is a 3300 mAh battery unit under the rear panel of the device.
OnePlus has also improved the imaging aspect of OnePlus Two significantly over OnePlus One. The latest handset from the brand comes with a 13 MP camera on the rear panel that is accompanied with laser focus and two tone LED flash for faster autofocus as well as more natural colour reproduction. The primary snapper also boasts of integrated Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), which improves the quality of pictures captured drastically. OnePlus Two flaunts a 5 Megapixel front camera that is quite impressive too.
On the connectivity front, OnePlus Two is one of very few devices to sport a reversible USB Type-C port that happens to be the future of USB. This is definitely a huge plus, however, there is no practical utility for the Type-C port as of now. Moreover, OnePlus Two is also the first handset from the Chinese handset maker to come with Dual-SIM feature. Other connectivity options include 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and USB OTG.
OnePlus has tagged its Two smartphone as 2015 Flagship Killer and as such, has taken the competition to every other existing flagship device in the handset market. The prime rivals of the handset happens to be Apple iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G3, Samsung Galaxy S5 and Google Nexus 6. However, all these devices lack the massive 4GB RAM and the price tag at which the handset is being offered.
At first glance, the OnePlus Two indeed looks like the next flagship killer owing to its impressive specifications and killer price tag. However, what concerns is the operating system pre-installed in the device viz. Oxygen OS. The initial release that came on OnePlus One arrived with its own share of bugs and was no match to the Cyanogenmod operating system. However, it is expected that with the launch of OnePlus Two out of the way, OnePlus will now focus on Oxygen OS development. As and when Oxygen OS reaches the level of Cyanogenmod OS, OnePlus Two will be the best handset in the market.
