Samsung is a busy handmaker these days as it is churning out device after device to cater to users of all price segment. The brand has now launched a new device called Galaxy Grand Prime 4G in budget segment in India. This handset managed to check all the right tickboxes when it comes to budget segment of smartphones. Here is a brief overview of the handset to introduce the device to our readers.
The design of the handset is signature Samsung design, which it used to follow before the recent changes. It comes with a matte finish back panel and glossy front. Also, the metal trimming on the sides of the handset further elevates the whole look of the device.
The display of the handset is kind of a disappointment owing to the size and poor resolution of the display. This handset comes equipped with a decent 5-inch display on its front, which is not much to go by. Also, the resolution offered by the display is on a lower side with 540 x 960 pixels, which may not be the best resolution to enjoy multimedia.
Since Google has already announced the next iteration of its Android operating system, it is only natural for new devices to come with the latest operating system. The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime 4G boasts of the latest Android Lollipop operating system and might also receive the Android M update. As such, the user experience offered by the handset is right on point and easy to use.
Performance and Battery Life
Samsung devices are often commended for the performance offered and Galaxy Grand Prime 4G is no exception. This handset has been equipped with a Quad-core processor that comes clocked at modest 1.2 GHz. The performance would have been decent, however, it is bogged down by the Touchwiz UI that happens to be graphic and resource hungry. Moreover, there is only 1 GB of RAM in this handset and as such you can expect usual hanging and stuttering in performance. Samsung has also equipped the handset with a 2600 mAh battery that can last a day or half on full charge.
For imaging, the South Korean handset maker has equipped the handset with an 8 Megapixel primary camera on the rear panel. This camera is accompanied with an LED flash and comes with features like 1080p video recording and autofocus. It also comes with a 5 Megapixel front facing camera that has a wide angle lens and 1080p video recording capability.
Samsung has equipped the device with 4G LTE connectivity that is great considering that the LTE connectivity is spreading fast and wide in the country. One of the highlights of the device is the availability of NFC, which happens to be the future of wireless connectivity. Other options on the handset include the standard Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB and GPS.
The handset has been placed in sub-INR 10,000 price segment in India, which is one of the hottest segment in India. The handset will be facing off against the likes of YU Yureka Plus and Lenovo K3 Note, which are both quite impressive handsets with full HD displays. Other handsets to consider at this price range include Motorola Moto G 3rd generation and Micromax Canvas Hue.
The Galaxy Grand Prime 4G is an indication of Samsung changing its philosophy and releasing new devices in all price segments. It is a welcome change and Samsung will benefit hugely from this in a market where it has been struggling until recently. Coming to the handset, Galaxy Grand Prime 4G happens to be a solid offering from Couth Korean brand and will succeed well in the country.
