Oppo India has opened its second manufacturing unit in Greater Noida. KillerFeatures has learnt from MCA filings that the factory is functional. The company today launched its new flagship phone Oppo F7 which has a 25 MP front camera, in India. At the launch event, the company confirmed to Killer Features that the manufacturing unit is indeed functional. Oppo India also manufactures OnePlus units.
Oppo has also incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary called TEGNA for electronics manufacturing. It is unclear at the moment what role it'd be playing. The Chinese company finished 5th in CY 2017 and Q4 of 2017 as per the IDC numbers and it has been spending a lot of money on marketing as well. Last year, it signed a deal worth Rs 1079 crore with BCCI to be the title jersey sponsor of Indian cricket team for five years.
The company achieved a whopping 750% jump in last financial year with Rs. 7,974 crore revenue as compared to Rs 933 crores in the financial year prior to that. There have been a lot of reports on Oppo reducing the retailer margins as well. Oppo's market share has reduced significantly as Xiaomi has gained No.1 position in the market. With its second manufacturing unit in India, Oppo will look forward to taking back some market share.
