If you are an Indian smartphone/4G data user, you are probably living in the best time that this industry has ever seen.
Since Reliance Jio came into the scene last year, the phenomenon of offering data and calls at throwaway prices has pretty much become the norm.
The latest announcement comes from a relatively forgotten player, Reliance Communications. Anil Ambani’s telecom operator has come up with yet another data offer: It provides 1 GB data each day for 70 days along with a talktime of Rs 50. All this in just Rs. 148.
The ‘super value’ data pack is valid only in the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh circles and offer a flat rate of 25 paise/minute for all calls to all networks. This is one of the most value for money packs launched in the rate war against Jio.
Some reports suggest RCom is also coming up with other affordable data plans, FRC 54 and FRC 61. Both the FRC 54 and FRC 61 plans give you 1 GB 4G data each day for 28 days. The plans also offer Reliance to Reliance calling at 10p/min and other networks at 25p/min.
These 4G packs come after the company recently claimed that the 750-million feature phone and 3G phone market shows that India is not yet ready to embrace 4G as the default norm.
However ignorant that comment might be, the fact remains that Reliance Jio gaining over 100 million customers in the matter of a few months shows the true potential of the Indian market.
