Spotify seems to be warming up for its India launch by making a number of moves. The streaming service has appointed artist Himanshu Suri aka Heems as the senior editor of Indian culture, multiple sources confirmed. Heems has been one half of the collective Swet Shop Boys with Riz Ahmed. He was also part of the act Das Racist before. Spotify had posted about this job last year. The Ken reported today that former OLX CEO Amarjit Singh Batra has been appointed as India's head by Spotify.
"We don't have any specific detail on your request for hire information at present," Spotify said in a response to Killer Features' questions.
Earlier Killer Features had reported that Spotify had opened its first office in India in Mumbai. It has appointed Akshat Harbola as the head of marketing operations in India. During an investor presentation CEO Daniel Ek said that the company indeed has plans to open shop in India.
After the arrival of Amazon Prime Music, Spotify is one of the most awaited music services in the country. One of the executives of the company even said that almost 36% of the target audience is ready for the launch.
