Here are some taxi apps other than Ola and Uber to avoid surge prices

by Hemal V

The cab aggregators have changed the way we commute on a daily basis. The arrival of Uber intensified the competition for the Indian cab aggregators.  Over the years, the price wars have seen the customer benefit. The big players have consolidated the market and with reducing competition, the benefits for both the customer and the drivers have diminished. Several new startups and old war horses that lost market share appear to be leveraging this opportunity. More competition could mean only one thing for the consumer, better services at lower fares. Let us look at some alternative taxi apps in India.

Jugnoo

Jugnoo, an auto-rickshaw aggregator service added cab services starting from the city of Gurugram. The services were launched during the strike of other two major taxi-aggregators. The co-founder Chinmay Agarwal believes that Jungoo provides a viable pricing model that works for both the driver and commuter without relying heavily on discounts. Jugnoo aims to address the growing concerns of the driver currently employed with Ola and Uber.

Baxi

Baxi, a bike-taxi aggregator launched their own cab aggregator app available to drivers for free of cost. The fares are regulated by a committee formed by taxi union members in each of the city the service is operational. Notably, Baxi does charge commission from the drivers, and provides the technology for free of cost. The co-founder AshutoshJohri believes that the app would give drivers true freedom.

Meru

Well, Meru needs no introduction as it has been around for a long time. The company who ruled the Indian Radio Taxi segment lost a significant market share to the taxi aggregators. Meru has been making a lot of changes to its business model to win back customers. It now also provides booking via the app and website. The fares, however, are still on the higher side considering the changes in the market in recent years. The giant has a long way to go before regaining its dominance.s

Easy Cabs

Easy Cabs is a radio taxi provider operational in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. It is a service offered by Carzonrent to ensure more personalized service. Users can book via phone, web, or Carzonrent app. Easy Cabs also provides separate payment options for corporate clients. They also offer on-time arrival guarantee or the user would get the next ride for free.

Revv

revv

Revv is a self-drive car rental provider who allows booking through app or website. This is a viable alternative for anyone who does not mind driving. Revv offers cost-effective hourly rentals, one-way outstation rentals, and Revv to work which will allow you to use the car for about 84 hours. It provides drop and pickup facilities along with extra privacy that one gets with self-driven cars. Revv via its arm called Switch also offers cars on rent for the entire month.
