Taking the concept of 'Netflix and chill' to an entirely different level, Bangalore based entrepreneurs Prashanth and Praveen Udupa have come up with a concept they call TERIFLIX. An amalgamation of “terrific” and “flix”(films), TERIFLIX allows you to rent a mini-theatre to watch your favourite shows or films on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video with your near and dear ones.
Launched in September 2017, TERIFLIX is located in Girinagar locality of South Bengaluru and offers a 13-seater AC auditorium, with a drool-worthy 135-inch screen, full HD projection and 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos sound system, that you can rent on an hourly basis. All you have to do is hire the theatre for Rs 1,299 per hour, call over your friends and watch anything you like using TERIFLIX’s 100 Mbps Internet connection. The best part? You are free to bring in your own food!
In addition, they also allow independent film-makers to screen their original content in a movie theatre-like setting. The team, however has strictly banned screening of pirated content and guarantees that your original content will not be pirated from the TERIFLIX premises.
While speaking to the start-up platform website Your Story, Prashant and Praveen revealed that they have put in the best amplifiers, speaker systems, acoustic materials and DLP projectors to ensure good picture quality and authentic Dolby Atmos Sound experience. “We are trying to alter customers’ buying behaviour from one of ‘buying tickets’ to that of ‘renting a theatre’. We are creating this whole new market. This will obviously take time. The response has been truly heartening, and in fact, better than expected. We have had enough revenue to cover our operating expenses comfortably. We have had people renting TERIFLIX for celebrating birthdays, corporate team outings, get-together of friends, family get-togethers and so on,” the brothers said when asked by Your Story about the response they have received to TERIFLIX.
TERIFLIX has had about 45 screenings with an average of about three screenings a week and close to a 1,000 people having visited the theatre since the big launch. Prashant and Praveen claim to be already working on expansion ideas and are considering franchise and affiliate models.
With digital platforms giving even the plushest of multiplexes a run for their money, TERIFLIX sure seems like an out-of-the-box idea that brings the best of both worlds to the same table.
