Xiaomi's cheapest phone just went on open sale in India

by Ankit Chawla

Xiaomi has finally announced the open sale of its cheapest smartphone in India, the Redmi 6A.

This announcement comes months after regular weekly flash sales on Mi.com and Amazon.in. The move now makes it the slight bit easier to grab a Redmi 6A for its recently reduced starting price tag of Rs. 5,999 for the 2GB RAM + 16GB storage model and Rs. 6,999 for the 2GB RAM + 32GB storage variant.

The Redmi 6A open sale will commence across these platforms, as well as at Mi Home offline stores, from 12am on January 12. Do note that the top-end variant of the phone has already been available in open sales since November, this announcements brings the sale to the lower-end variant as well.

Xiaomi claims, as per IDC's November 2018 shipment tracker, the Redmi 6A is currently India's bestselling smartphone since launch.

The Redmi 6A was first launched in India back in September last year, alongside the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6 Pro. The Redmi 6A has, since launch, been sold exclusively via Mi.com and Amazon.in online and the company's Mi Home stores offline. However, some sellers have listed the phone on other e-commerce platforms with varying price tags.
