OnePlus introduced the 90Hz display into the mainstream earlier this year with the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T Series. Leaks soon start revealing that the company is looking to up the ante with a 120Hz display on the OnePlus 8 series, expected to release in the first half of 2020. Now, new leaks around Xiaomi's smartphone lineup suggest that the Chinese smartphone maker is looking to give tough competition to OnePlus.
According to a leak by CNBeta.com, Xiaomi is said to be working on a 120Hz display smartphone. This smartphone will be launched with a 120Hz AMOLED panel, which is expected to offer a butter-smooth refresh rate that will be beneficial for mobile gamers.
Currently in the market, smartphones like Asus ROG Phone 2 and the the Razer Phone 2 offer a 120Hz display considering they are targeted towards the gaming audience. However, one big reason why more OEMs do not offer such a display on their mainstream devices is because it hinders battery life substantially.
If in fact the leaks are correct, this would be the first instance where we see a Xiaomi phone launching with this kind of a display. The report also reveals that this would be a flagship smartphone, thus justifying the presence of a premium feature. It could be anyone between the Poco F2, Mi 10, or the Redmi K30 Pro, launching next year.
